Inspiration

I have been playing Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) for 15 years. When I first started as a player, I was one of two AFAB (assigned femaile at birth) in a group of ten men. Inappropriate jokes were made that left me feeling uncomfortable. I was in a typically male dominated space and didn’t know how to voice my discomfort. When I took up the role of Dungeon Master (DM), it gave me the power to find ways to assert boundaries, and make the space safe for all my players.

Strategy

This group helps individuals explore their identity, emotional experience, and communication patterns through the use of the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons (DnD). For those unfamiliar with the game, it involves the DM (myself) making a world for the players to explore and overcome different challenges. The clients in the group create a character in the first session guided by myself to fit into the game. No experience with DnD is required.

Focus

Both inside and outside of the DnD activity itself, this group focuses on skills building for planning, problem solving, self-confidence, communication, and creative expression.

This group helps people with anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum and more. It is a safe space to explore identity for Gender & Queer folx as well.

Let’s make a story together.
